Spring break is when many of us steal time and travel or enjoy a staycation with our family since it is really short and special. We had so much fun, now back to the grind (work.) It is always fun with the family yet I cannot wait for you to hear all about Exotic Maya Ruin, La Casa de las Siete Muñecas.
So what are your plans? We enjoy visiting family and having fun in the sun. Well, whenever we visit we have lots of fun learning about some new sites with the family in Merida, Yucatan.
We visited the large archeological site with two large ruins which have an interesting history and a cenote is a type of sinkhole that contains groundwater. This sinkhole is really beautiful and is set in the most appropriate area for us to enjoy. It is a large natural swimming pool with a colorful aquatic garden inside. Normally, there are many cenote in this area but most are underground. This one is special to see outside of a cave. Tell you more about this later:).
There are two ruins on this archeological site which is always a treat and beautiful. The Indians were very smart and always constructed near a natural running stream of water. The were smart in that the ruins were not nearby you need to do some exercise to get to the other. Yes, tennis/sneakers is most appropriate to walk and enjoy the beautiful site. Yes , it is nice to enjoy the warm weather and walk the windy path with the spirits, teasing 🙂 or enjoy the wind under the trees !
I want to share this story with you as I know you will find it fascinating. History like this is interesting.
On site, there is a featured ruin called “The House of the Seven Dolls” (La Casa de las Siete Muñecas.) This famous ruin resembles a tower with stairs on each of the four sides which is also known as Sun Temple was the focal point of the city. Accordingly, the second name is related based on the phenomenon that happens twice a year. Many travel far and wide in both Spring and Autumn to see the dawning sun visibly through the window and out the other. Can you imagine? This is possible based on incredible mathematical knowledge of the Mayans many moons ago. Incredible, did you know: the temple main road is covered with white limestone which is on top of rocks and rubble? Amazing but it is!
This phenomenon will be a great sight to see one day soon! Plan your vacation to see the sunrise or sunset, you would need to be there early to get a great picture. There are thousands of people that visit just for that memorable momento (moment.)
After seeing this featured ruin we took a walk on the limestone road to the larger ruin. Really the view is awesome and you can read more about that here the Exotic Maya Ruin, La Casa de las Siete Muñecas.
