How is everyone doing? Energized and ready for the week? After a long weekend, we are normally boosted with positive energy flowing into the work week. And because a new week always brings new opportunities it is always good to remember and follow “los sabios consejos de mamá y abuelita” or the wise advices our grandmothers and mothers always had for us. For instance, my mother always told me to enjoy life to the fullest and to not let anything stand in my way. Therefore, this year I am determined to do just that. If you are wondering how? Well, that’s easy and of course sharing it with you.
I can remember my abuelita (grandmother) saying “Eating and sleeping well is the best remedy to good health.” We all know that Latina abuelita’s saying are savvy and you better follow them to the T. 🙂 I have a confession to make because of those wise words. Reality hits, I am that mom that is always running late, yes, I know. Organization is key to living life to the fullest and hey, sleeping well. The problem is that our schedules are always clashing and creating problems. Hey, the first step is identifying the problem, right?
Make Your Own Cork Board
Now, the solution. It has been a while I have been attempting to make a Planning board to be displayed in the main hallway so we can see what our schedule is for the day. First thing was to consolidate and to change a couple things in our schedule. Then finding a way to display it. I remember we have a beautiful frame that a friend made for us and we never got to use. Well, I pulled it out and it looks well done. I liked the color it has and will display beautifully in our hallway. To transform this frame into a Planning board, there were a few items I needed to get. So I made a list of materials I needed and headed to my local Walmart store to get them. Here is what you need and how to make your own planning board just like mine:
- Clean the frame
- Get rolling cork board.
- Monthly Calendar
- Thumb tacks or pins
Firstly, I got the cork board.
Next, I got a screwdriver to take out the backing of the frame.
Unscrewing the backing of the frame.
Marking the board to cut to the size of frame.
Cutting cork board for the frame. You have a choice, there is a package of 4 pieces or rolling cork board. I had this rolling cork board from a precious project.
Setting the cork board into the frame.
Adding the back to the frame. I did screw the backing onto the frame before turning it around.
Now to see the result, yes!
Excellent, the cut was just right. Perfect!

Have you ever made your own planning board? If so, what did you added to it? I enjoy shopping at Walmart, it is my favorite one stop shopping retailer where I am able to buy all I need. Not only I can get supplies for my favorite projects, I can also get my #1 selling pain reliever, Advil® *Among OTC brands. *Use as directed. You can find this product online and also at Walmart two aisle from the pharmacy. So, toast to pains that are worth it with a glass of water and an Advil. Salud!
I enjoy the fact that I am able to be involved in my children’s life with the aches and pains and cramps that comes along. A latina’s lifestyle is full of joy and we motivate our family to overcome obstacles we meet along the way. I use Advil for all those aches and pains. It is very interesting to see how happy the children are to learn and see how much our Mexican culture are inherited from the Spanish culture. Oh, I am so very happy to achieve one of my goals by creating my Planner and will eliminate tardiness which will make my life so much more organized. Are you a latino/a, what fascinates you most about your culture? How do you overcome those aches and pains? What helps you to be organized? We will surely enjoy your comment. Have a great day!
